put on a mask

I'm proud to be a Malaysian, even though it's stated at the right side bar that I'm Korean at heart :p There are so many things that comes with the M-package that I'd never change - we're always big on causes, no matter what and we have a lot of yummy food (that would definitely top my list any time). Ohh, and we're also very generous. Give, give, give all the time.

But there's one thing that makes me complain without fail. The people of this nation love to imitate other people. When Bollywood was HUGE, we followed suit. The telemovies shown were always including some sort of dancing and singing complete with the traditional Indian attire.

I should have known this one was coming, silly me was only focusing on the real K-pop scene (or rather the K-drama) that I wasn't really thinking about the 'mushrooms' back home. They popped out real fast, even the real mushrooms would be ashamed :p

Actually, I'm the one ashamed when I watched these vidoes..how can they do this to me? Why o why?
I'm gonna pack my bag and migrate to Korea this instance while wearing face mask.

coming of age

i'm still waiting to see the bulk of photos taken during two academic trips we had on Monday and last Thursday. the thing is most of them would take too much photos - they went clicking nonstop from before we boarded the bus until right the end of the journey, and their specialities would be the sleeping photos :p that's why i made sure i didn't fall asleep at all. kids.. *sigh*

the big news is >>>>> i'm going to cast my vote on Sunday (hint: my hometown is one of the famous places in Malaysia right now). it's my first one peeps. i thought i don't have to participate in it, but yesterday my dad said my name's in the list. i'm nervous to fulfill my responsibility :)

there are lots of movies to be watched, and not much time available - there are lots of tests next week too..huhu

having dinner with another fifty thousand people

the other day when i got the medical leave for the slight fever that had been on and off for about a week, i still went to the dinner in Klebang..the big event with our PM. didn't attend the only class that day and still attended the dinner with thousands of ppl, great..my lecturer would kill me if she knows :p my friends said she even asked for me. i didn't know u'd realize i'm not there, miss R.
with all the commotion and after waiting for the staff to arrange the buses in order of each block, we got on one and started fanning ourselves until the bus went on the road. imagine the school bus with no air-cond and not to mention the heat from the sun these days. thank God it's not in the afternoon, or i'd melt down to a puddle already :p
when we were nearing the place, we saw a few busloads of National service's kids. i was thinking they sure invited the whole of the nation for that particular evening, cause i didn't realize at first just how big the place is. then when we were finally there, we saw all sorts of buses taking all sorts of people from all over. there were KYM, MMU, UTeM among them..i dunno much about the others cause there was no written proof anywhere. like us, they went there on school buses and other rented buses..mcm la uitm xde bas kn.
the thing that i hated about that place was it just used the beach for the setup..imagine having to walk on a stretch of beach sands and before that on rocks. the tables were on sand too..it was unbelievably irritating. and there was no designation for the tables, just numbers,..i bet some people were lost in the sea of tables and people that night.
the entertainment for the night was okay..there were Marsha, Anuar Zain singing 'kain pelikat', Fiq, Bob AF, the Kenny person who resembles Sudirman, Ali Mamak and a few others.
the food was horrible though..tasteless asam pedas, diluted gravy of pisang masak lemak, and salty fried chicken among them. to be expected when it's given free :p
most of the ppl were waiting until the end of the event for the lucky draw, wanna see if they're lucky enuff to get the Perodua Viva. i think most of the prizes were won by guys.
and the last part of all, waiting to go back. we had to wait for around half an hour just to drive past the 'dataran'. i dunno how the other bus from my block can get back to the campus in just half an hour, but we were stuck in the long line of buses and cars and only arrived back at 3 in the morning. it was very tiring.

being free

it's gonna be 52 years after we gained our independence as a country, a multiracial country as a whole.
but thinking of how we, Malaysians act and think of others..our own countrymen. i'd say we've a long way to go to make up for the 52 years of independence. as a country, we haven't reach a level that's substantial to make us really unite. even tho we say we're proud of ourselves to have come such a long way, we're still making HUGE mistakes..of blaming others and closing one eye on our own fault.
i'm gonna be 23 in a few months, and that's only half the years of our independence. i'm totally thankful coz i don't have to go thru the hardship of getting the independence, or even living under the British officers, the Dutch..or those terrible time under the Japanese occupation. that's the reason we learn history in school..to learn from the past, their mistakes, their sufferings and their courage. but now, i don't think the new generation get what was meant by those stories we learnt about. that's why i don't agree with the edu system, it produces ppl who are studying hard just to pass the exams..and not to learn the real thing. thus, the proud feeling of being a true Malaysian subsides and dims with time. it adds with the lack of interest of the younger generation in learning the history subject in school. i hope the ministry would never consider making history into one of the elective subjects in the future, like what happened to Geography. there are a lot of ppl who don't know where the states are situated in our own country, let alone knowing about the other countries.
we're free in the sense that we're free to study, to voice our own thoughts, to build our career..to live anywhere we want, to go anywhere. then one asked, are we really free that we can taunt other races? are we really free that we throw accusations to others, blaming them for everything..even if it's not totally their fault? are we really free?
these recent years, i've been assessing the situation for myself..since i turned to be in another bracket of age, i think. i couldn't really recall if i've started this 'assessment' before that. some ppl tend to generalise everyone into a group and speak of them as one. that's barely tolerable. they would say "that race is downright disgusting, they do this and do that to us", when actually it's just some ppl they know. and i don't think they've met everyone born in that race, to enable them to say all would have the same quality. i know there would be a whole lot more ppl better than this one particular person who's badmouthing the other race.
when that happens around me, which i'm sad to reveal..had happened one too many times when i was even right there. my parents have interracial marriage..and i'm deeply affected when i encounter racial issues. i would say i'm blessed to be born half-half..coz i wouldn't know if i could be this sensitive to this issue if i was born 'full-blooded'.
let me quote this one particular ads, about the ABC being Malaysians' favourite. ABC as all of us know, needs a lot of ingredients to make it whole..to make it truly ABC. the red beans, the nuts, the corn, the syrup, the condensed milk, the attap chee..among all. the same goes for Malaysia, we would never be Malaysia if there's no Malay, Chinese, Indian, Bidayuh, Kadazan and others.
owh, and please add up the feel of Merdeka day. i don't think this year's celebration gonna be something memorable..coz i still don't get the Independence Day vibe, even tho it's less than a day now..
hopefully we can think about this, and change our attitude as a nation..so that the situation can also change for the better and benefit us all

lookalike

i'm not quite adjusted of Najib being the PM yet, i still think of him as a regular minister until now. okay, maybe the deputy PM. guess i've grown attached to Pak Lah, and i still need some time to make the transition.
but i love his idea of "1Malaysia". i'm all about unity and for everyone to think of us all as the Malaysian race, and not Chinese, or Indian or Malay or Sikh u get the idea..that's gonna be divine ;)

i love the new Astro ads, the one about the ppl's unity, which have the lady saying she can converse in English with foreign tourists and is able to converse with them and ask "what are you looking for?" "salted fish". i think the Indian guy is really cute when he speaks Cantonese. he said, "when he was at the mamak stalls, ppl looked at him when he speaks in Cantonese." What? An Indian can't learn to speak in other languages eyh? When ppl learn other languages like French, or Japanese, or Korean..others would be looking up to them. Why can't we do the same when others learn languages we can use everyday, when talking with our friends or neighbours. That would take us all into a whole new Malaysia. One nation that's proud of our own identity, colorful with all kinds of cultures and languages. I'm a proud Malaysian, but i would be even more proud..if we can upgrade ourselves.
Looking for someone who can speak Mandarin, Cantonese and Hokkien..i'm really thinking of learning those.
owh, i love the other ads too, about the kids with their ambitions. the boy in the field saying "saya mau buat rumah ini besar" haha..i laughed everytime i heard what he said. and the girl with ponytail who said "i want to explore/conquer every mountain on earth", looks a lot like my cousin.

p/s : thanx to someone, i'm all smiles today ;) looking fwd to catch up with u again
