East Coast

It had been one month since the trip to the East Coast, and what makes it funny is that we didn't even take the scenic coastal route. I really miss the long stretch of coconut trees and the expected bright fires at the Kerteh area. Again, it also means that I did not have any chance to eat the fried seafood I've been wanting to stomach since forever.

But all we did was eat and eat. But we forgot to go eat at Kedai Nasi Kak Wok, and I just realized it when fellow Instagrammer posted a photo. Well, save it for next time then.

One of my favorite was Nasi Ulam Cikgu, Kampung Kraftangan.

And of course, the yummy kueh spread at Pasar Siti Khadijah.

The trip also made me eat a lot more when I came back. *sigh*

last Eid celebration

It seems that everywhere is celebrating Eid these week, I saw two of my friends' photos of the celebration at work. And today is our campus' turn.

I went to last year's but not the one before. Last year's was held at a different venue, the parking lot beside the old academic building. Every stall was clustered in one place, so you could go around in one circle and pick which stall has the least people lining up for food food you like. This time it was held at the Admin building - the stalls were everywhere that we had to go this way and that way to see what is available.

And as we've experienced it once where our friends didn't get any food because they went there a lil bit late, we decided to go early this time. Besides last year's celebration was held during class hours (the food were finished up in no time), and this week we're already finished with our classes - you can take a guess just how long the food will be there :p

As early as we wanted to go, we arrived around 10 am and the celebration started at 8.30 am. There  were a lot of food, prepared by each residential college and also the Non-Residents (NR) club. But I didn't look at the stalls' names - only at those tempting yummy food. There were the usuals - nasi himpit, rendang ayam, lemang, rendang daging, Raya cookies, satay...and also other types of food - yong tau foo, chapati, ayam golek, rojak buah, nasi lemak, etc. I didn't get to eat ayam golek and satay...too full with the other stuff and the line was too long.

I feel that this one is better than last year's because everyone is everywhere and we got to feast our eyes on everyone passing by our spot. There was this one family of 5 or 6 girls (maybe a lecturer's) - that donned the same orange baju kurung. They looked very close in age with the youngest looking like she's 2 - they looked really adorable.

thumbs up ;)
Oh, and our beloved Rector rode a bicycle around the compound - but I didn't take a good look. Last year he rode on the scooter on display :p

Somehow I'm starting to miss this place - even though I can't wait to pack everything up and say my goodbye to this place.

layers and folds

I haven't read Malay novels that much recently, unlike mom - she never stops buying them (depending on the authors and synopsis) and even went to the local library when she feels like it.

I felt that there's just to many authors nowadays, and more often than not you'll end up reading something similar, something I've-read-this-kind-of-story-somewhere. And I hate that the most. The purpose of buying different books is of course not to read the same thing over and over again.

The best thing for authors to do is for them to go traveling, experience new cultures, meet new faces . . . etc, etc. Then they'll have new ideas to work on. Worst come to worst, read books that are written in a different language to minimize the possibilities of producing something noticeably similar in the market. We have the tendency to replicate something we read beforehand, subconsciously or not . . .

Okay, let's just let that go...I didn't even have time to read the books I borrowed from the campus' library - it's no wonder when my rented house is within the coverage area of Wi-fi internet connection. Hard to find time when there's a lot of other things to do :p

The other day when I came back from Lendu, I searched for the Ketika Cinta Bertasbih novel that I was sure I've read before but mom told me that her colleague borrowed it. So I read a book that I stumbled upon while searching for the other. I think mom had just bought it recently. It's Cinta yang Ku Rasa by Anis Ayuni. She is my favorite local author, as most of her books proved to be worth reading.

And once I started reading, I felt like never putting down the book - if only I didn't have chores to do. I even felt like cutting the shopping trip short earlier, and running back home to feast my eyes on the story, word by word.

I'm going to read it once again...can't help it :p

unveiling the history

My sister really put a lot of effort in convincing me to watch the movie X-Men: First Class with her. She said the casts would steal my breath away :p

Okay, so I agree with her. Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and Alex (Lucas Till) do look good in the movie.

It's been a long time since I last watched James McAvoy in action. And the movie is actually a great one, even in my opinion (one who prefers other genres). Maybe because they took great care in including all the appropriate emotions at the right time. Last of all, I was deeply touched by Magneto..when he only let go, after knowing there's no other way for them.

I've been obsessing about headbands ever since I watched the drama My Princess starring Kim Tae Hee and Song Seong Heon. Everything the princess wore looks adorably sweet. All day I moved from shop to shop drooling after headbands..I really felt like buying 'em all, if only I have 10 heads to wear them all at once. Haha.

Another one that got me drooling was the Mexican coffee bun, when I watched the drama My Fair Lady starring Yoon Eun Hye, Yoon Sang hyun and Jung Il Woo.It's been years since I last craved for the bun.

There was Rotiboy in the drama, and I just found out that it originated from Penang. I was thinking that maybe some other language probably used the word roti for bread too, like us. But it really is a Malaysian product, I'm so proud to know that ;)
